What is PT-141?
PT-141, known as Bremelanotide and sold as Vyleesi, is a melanocortin receptor agonist. Unlike Viagra or Cialis which work by increasing blood flow, PT-141 works in the brain — specifically the hypothalamus, which governs sexual motivation and arousal. This central mechanism is what makes it uniquely effective for conditions where blood flow is not the primary issue.
Why it matters: Most sexual dysfunction does not respond well to blood flow medications because the root cause is neurological. PT-141 addresses this directly, which is why it works when other treatments have failed.
PT-141 for men
For men, PT-141 addresses both erectile dysfunction and low sexual desire. It generates desire and arousal neurologically, working even when baseline interest is low. Many men use PT-141 alongside a PDE5 inhibitor — PT-141 for desire, Viagra or Cialis for blood flow — for comprehensive coverage.
PT-141 for women
PT-141 is FDA-approved specifically for hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women. Side effects
